“ For he (Tesla) has given to the world a complete solution of the problem which has taxed the brains and occupied the time of the greatest electro-scientists of the last two decades- namely, the successful adaption of electrical power transmitted over long distances”

At the end of the 19th century, there was a great scientific debate being waged about whether the United States should use DC (direct current) electricity or AC (alternating current) electricity. Nikola Tesla revolutionized the electrical industry with a series of patents that made the AC polyphase system more efficient and inexpensive to produce massive amounts of electricity. Tesla's AC polyphase system was purchased by Westinghouse Electric in 1889 to power multiple NY cities and would leave a legacy as the world standard for electrical power.
