3 phase alternating current use became the standard in the 1900s and still today due to higher flexibility, and smaller wires compared to other kinds of AC such as 2 phase. The 1st use in a power grid was in Lauffen to Frankfurt in Germany 1891 the transmission line spanned around 109 miles. In the same year, another 3 phase power plant was built by GE in Redlands, California this power plant had a transmission line of 7 miles.
