Nikola Tesla The battle of the currents was a period of time from 1888-1894 when AC and DC had an electrical standard war. Edison was for DC electricity and Tesla partnered with George Westinghouse for AC electricity. It started with Tesla having the idea of the AC induction motor rotating magnetic field, which came to him in a flash while walking at a park with his friend in 1881. With the idea, a series of magnets could make the moving parts of the motor rotate like a wheel. People would no longer have to turn a wheel to power some generators. In May 1888 Tesla spoke to the American Institute of Electrical Engineers with a prototype AC induction motor.
